I said it before, but you sir, are a fucking wordsmith.

Any chance of an EPUB?

Epubs are everywhere

Hey! You make some of us sound like unreliable loves who keep wandering off and returning from time to time for some more sugar you can't say no to.

...I liked that, so I bought it.

Decameron?

So mate, this is great news. I’m genuinely impressed. Lying here early morning in Sant Ilarrio d’Enza Italy on a work trip jet lagged. Just reading a few pages and I’ve got to say your description of New Orleans resonates with me. Place is a nightmare for me but a happy town for most people who visit.

Money thrown your way, sir.

This is why you remain my favorite

I recently browsed the Paradise Book Shop on main road Daylesford, finding "The Tasmanian Babes Fiasco" and "World War 2.3". I couldn't stop laughing about the first one, but didn't get into the second one at all. All these characters were already well established and it seemed to me like entering a secret society without being inaugurated. I had no idea what was going on... However, this one sounds a little like the strange mix of future/past I remember from Ted Benoit's Ray Banana comics, where everything happens in Metropolis, a future city with a 1940s/1950s/New Wave mix of fashions and designs.

Oh, you crack me up John, Lol crack me up too. No free chapter for me however, that's robbing the reading moment- I must buy your book though.

As for disappointment, I have a wife (of 31 years) and four adult children (three of whom still live at home)- now there's disappointment in spades.

First thoughts on seeing an alert with this title:-

“Mate, if you think I disappoint you now you really have no idea”

:)

I’ve bought it and read it JB.

Read it on the plane home from Delhi after a global conference on AI. The world is about to change a lot and really fast over the next two years - for good and for bad.

The longer The Axis of Time goes, the more I’m thinking series. Probably Amazon Prime. Harry has now aged out so he could play himself. You could even cast Meghan as Julia 😉.

I mean, excellent to have this but I had Cruel Stars 3 on pre-order for a year then it got canned 😭 I assume it will see the light of day at some point?

Do I need to have read the first two books before reading this one?

It’s not that I’m cheap, I just have an unmanageable TBR.

Is Slim Jim related to 'Slippery' Jim DeGriz?

I don’t know if news of the stainless steel rat ever made it down to Oz. It would be great if it did. Come to think of it, I’ve never asked an Aussie what they thought of Chopper either!

Yeah I was a big fan in the 70s. Stross’s new thing is apparently something of an homage, so there’s something else to look forward to.

Damo's avatar

So the next Cruel Stars is right behind it, right?

John Birmingham's avatar

In fact it might be! My US publisher just told me they’re finally releasing it

jaymo31459's avatar

Woot. Good news. Damn I need to start repeatedly hitting refresh on Amazon again, I am keen to find out how that one comes out.

Book's good so far.

Do you ever get too fond of a character?

Potato Shaped Man's avatar

I meant so fond that you really don't want to kill them, etc?

John Birmingham's avatar

Yeah. That does happen
