You'd think that they'd at least put some effort into hiding their nefarious schemes, but no. Everyone knows what's going on and the fossil fuel fuckers also know that nobody is going to do anything about it. Bowen on 7:30 the other night telling us how often he speaks to the Sultan of Swings and Roundabouts and what a lovely caring bloke he is so he couldn't possibly be scamming/dooming us all for his own benefit. Let Greta run the show.

I think we've reached the 'Fuck you just pay me and die' stage of late stage capitalism.

Why 'Cop28' ? should it not be "Cop this lot 28"

Why indeed. What a shit show.

Looking forward to “The Collector” novels, where it will become “Cop this, you lot!”

Can you spell "systemic capture" because this is the quintessence of it, the ichor, the lifeblood. There were 636 lobbyists at the last COP, there'll be even more at this one. And what do a good chunk of our pollies on both sides of the binary-coloured divide do straight out of politics? Recieve plum board positions in the Dinosaur Bone Squad.

The cognitive dissonance with which most of the world's population shrugs at these things just confirms to me that technologically competent sentience is an evolutionary dead end. We do it to ourselves, we do, and that's what really hurts.

And on the same day as that old monster Kissinger, the killer of satire, died.

and if you ever what to see how far mainstream media in Australia has declined look at the coverage of this monsters death.

I was in Paris in January 1973 when Kissinger was meeting with Le Duc Tho - not that I realised that at the immediate moment - too busy gazing around me in naïve wonder at the famous Place this or that. I was in both Viet Nam and in Cambodia in May/June this year - Agent Orange, My Lai and Pol Pot - The Killing Fields (one, at least) and US dropped mine clearance agencies - for which one of my UK cousins spent three terms in Cambodia - for the UN and for other NGO operations. You use the same word for Heinz (Henry) Alfred Kissinger as do I - a monster. Ask the people of South America - of Chile and La Argentina...!!! Nick Turse has just published an essay of indictment in The Intercept which lists all Henry's atrocity responsibilities!

"... gliding around the old climate change conference with a plate full of Jatz crackers and cocktail onions"

Don't forget the Halal cabanossi JB!

Haha. I was trying to think of something other than little squares of Coon cheese, and couldn't come up with anything! This would have been perfect.

You are dead right, JB - what a joke the whole thing has turned out to be - and over 600 energy extractor lobbyists wandering around the conference, too. A farce at best!

Honestly, Jim. I couldn't believe when I first read this story. It's self satirising. Except for the endless screaming, of course.

" biggest climate change conference should be hosted by one of the world’s biggest climate change perpetrators" I believe that is what the marketeer gurus call 'synergy'TM.

Sadly I can't even summon a grin at your turn of phrase . It's such a charade. They start with a slush fund to shut up the poor countries most affected by catastrophic climate events. We've even started telling the Pacific they can just move here. All in lieu of actually doing something like stopping oil and gas industries

I like the fact you added Western Australia as a third world country. Given the way it has deployed the WA Police Counter Terrorist Command against Disrupt Burrup Hub, a group of environmental activists (who's only real threat to the police and the WA government is if they get so good at making stink bombs they manage to clear off the cops and 007s that are tailing them) you could be forgiven for thinking that WA was one of the African countries across the Indian Ocean.

You can add oll' Al J "show me the money' Jaber to your revenge novel methinks.

I like your books, but you have dumb ideas about the climate. And the COP are all horrible hypocrites with their hundreds of private jets. They are not saints

Expand full comment

Dumb ideas like heeding the irrefutable evidence humans are dramatically changing the climate? Which, btw, I have taught at a tertiary level, so I understand it at a level I doubt you have any clue about. Back in your hole, denier.

Expand full comment

Straight to "denialist", eh? Wow, you taught what you were told to teach, big deal. Do you honestly think the world is doomed by a 1.5 degree rise in temperature? The DOOM thing is a worst case scenario from the IPCC which will not happen. And I guarantee you that building unreliable wind and solar power WILL NOT FIX ANYTHING! It is making things worse. All one has to do is look at Germany and California and Texas to see "renewables" are a delusional fantasy. Battery storage is impossible. There is absolutely no way we can eliminate fossil fuel usage in a few years without causing enormous difficulties for billions of people. The solution is simple: natural gas as a bridge to nuclear. The ships in JB's fleet of the future is all nuclear. The US Navy has been nuclear since the Nautilus in 1957, and no accidents. Read some stuff maybe you haven't read and teach THAT.

Some delegates fly to COP meetings on private jets, demonstrating they are not saints, and therefore climate change is not happening? And if it's not happening, who cares what they do?

Man that's some weird logic there.
