Cool idea, even cooler idea the self awareness about the perception of possible poverty porn. I like your ideas, another suggestion I have seen suggested by Mikel Jollett on Redditt "no more Billionaires. None. After you reach $999 million every red cent goes to schools and health care. You get a trophy that says "I won capitalism" and we name a dog park after you".

Along with the uber rich we need to deal with opulence of the religion industry, confiscate all their hilltop real estate and demolish their edifices for the construction of homes for the needy. If there is an outcry then replace their hilltops with flood prone riverside real estate recovered from buyouts by local councils. Churches on stilts could become a new novel form of architecture.

I'd read the notes, at least some of the time. Thank you for your always enjoyable thoughts and the care you put into not making the world accidentally worse.

I thought you were initially riffing on Littleproud's plan this week, endorsed by Dutts, to send young offenders to outback camps: "200 or 300km from towns. You don’t need barbed wire – if they want to run away, they have to dodge the king browns and wild dogs – but every morning they’re up with a purpose. They’re taught a trade – making fences, building fences, cleaning out water troughs, branding cattle, learning mechanics – and they come away with a purpose in life”. It kinda feels like he read The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood and rather than seeing it as a critique of power, misogyny and corporate control, thought 'bloody good idea!'

There is a part of me that likes the idea of punishing billionaires, but there is a bigger part of me that likes the idea of using them as fertiliser.

As always JB,

Thanks for the work. And it's always interesting to hear something about the processes of others so (assuming it's not a big PITA for you) it's a big Yes from me re using Substacks Notes to micro-blog. Especially if it eats into Twitter's/X's Lunch, and maybe takes a bite out of Meta too. Just this week, a complaint from Ian Hartley (an 80's Sydney event promoter producer, who I think of as an important Sydney figure of the time) started yet another conversation about the usual Fb police-bot abuses, and most people I know would love to find somewhere else to partake in good conversation.

Hope to hear more from you soon, Rik

I don’t see any belittling but then I’m not poor. These situations exist for people so I guess it’s how you react, with kindness and respect or with arrogance and assholery. There’s a whole bunch of peeps who ain’t billionaires who could be similarly punished.

Nice thoughts. An 8hr stint on a tinnie, with a 5HP motor might be nice. Drop anchor and swim and wade in. G'banga Deadheart could park that anywhere there's a sandy shore. Hey I'm not shaming tinnies - grew up occasionally fishing with Dad in one. You can email as much as you like JB, notes would be great!

Yep! I think it's a great idea to share notes, particularly for untrained novices like me who've always dreamed of developing the level of writing prowess you've reached over the years. Thanks!

I’ll give ghe Notes a go. I already get some from people I’m quite sure I didn’t sign up to so it’d be cool to get them from someone I did.

On a different note, everyday is a good day to rag in Dutton. But the whole bunch of idiots in our political and media class don't deserve freedom from ASB scorn and derision. As I was saying on a discord, I don't trust our mouth breathing idiots to get the republic right, so I am still pro monarchy. Even if those congenital morons Morrison and Hurley did their best to trash the unwritten conventions.

Yep, I'd like the notes too. If only for possible inspiration for my own (far inferior) weekly Substack newsletter.

I've been that poor, and I actually found it heartening that other humans recognised that existance and how shitty it is and that forcing billionaires to live like that is both funny and just. TBH I found it funny and validating. Having said that I haven't had to live like that for a while now.

Yep I would read those said lines-great way to procrastinate!

"Jenkins put the cover on the guillotine. We're going to try something different with those billionare rat bastards!"

Idea-gathering is a crucial thing. Stuff comes to me at the strangest moments. Ex: the idea for the RIFLES series came as I binged "The Crown" S1. Usually, I don't watch TV or follow the royals, so I'm not sure why this happened. But it did. I've also learned to jot down ideas because if you don't, they will slip away.

JB, I for one would like to be able to read them, it would be interesting to see a glimpse of how the infinite monkeys in that 'brain the size of a planet' work :-)

Would also say that people could suggest thing about the notes but you would probably end up submerged in responses.

I dunno. In terms of microblogging, I feel that Spoutible has the best platform but Blue Sky is the best community (the creative comic people I followed in the horrid website people still call twitter fled here). I just wish we had the golden age of Twitter back, before the dark times. Before the coming of the Muskageddon.

I don't use notes, but I only really follow a couple of people, and the tech bro lack of self awareness the people running this site are really not people I want to support.
