BTW, totally agree on apologising - my approach I inspirationally share with the team is “If you are going to have to eat sh!t, do it promptly and with a smile on your face” - experience has told me to lean into it when you have to. It serves you a lot better in the long run than deflection/denial/avoidance and is surprisingly cathartic.
The little brother of apologizing for mistakes is admitting error, something I've always embraced with great enthusiasm! Recognizing your error (or ignorance) is the only way to learn something new, and that's (IMO) one of the main purposes of this life. Requires keeping eyes and mind open.
I've never understood those who wear their infallible correctness as some sort of badge. Bertrand Russell on the certainty of fools and the doubts of the wise fits here.
Happy birthday JB. Wise words and some very wise indeed (they must be because I agreed). The walk, with dog, to a pub, has Conan beat for What is Best in Life hands down.
Excellent list. Simple is often the opposite of easy. Cats are not dogs and are marvellous in their own fluffy way. I have a big birthday looming next year. I'll read your list again. Hopefully I'll have improved on a few entries. I didn't realise the 30th anniversary edition of 'Felafel' had been released. I've never read it so I've just bought a copy - in paperback form. I'm steering clear of eBooks as I suspect they will send my to-read pile into stratospheric heights. I inherited my parents' books so I have too many glaring at me as it is.
Happy Birthday JB! Nothing does sweet murder eyes like a kitty and sweet loving eyes like a pupper. The Friday hits from the JB wordbong are very much appreciated.
Happy Birthday. Some good tips in the post but I am a little discombobulated by our relative ages. When I first started following you way back at Cheeseburger Gothic on Journalspace you were younger then, than I am now. Doesn't seem right somehow.
Happy birthday John. 'Parenthood, man. The days are long but the years are short." ain't this the absolute truth.

You make my heart smile and once again - lol!
Happy happy birthday! 🎈

I was thinking exactly the same.
You do this to music and you could be the new Sunscreen song.
I dare you.
Happy birthday favourite author human.
I did and do like the Sunscreen Song, but once was enough.

Happy 60th, JB.

Happy Birthday John! 60 sounds excellent to me. Next month I get to celebrate 70, which is a darned sight better than the alternative 😜.

Happy birthday! Those are a bunch of wise notions. Thanks!
Love your work young man. Happy Birthday JB. May we still be reading your genius for many many years to come.
Happy birthday.

Happy Birthday, John, and thank you for brightening so many of my weeks. May you do so for many, many more and keep writing for us.
