Hi. It’s me. JB. Still on the road. I’m in Paris at the moment, eating too much and refusing to read news from home. I have been playing with The Collector story, however. Usually while in transit. I’ll post another section here today, following on immediately from where we left the story last time, with the Collector (that’s me, I’m the Collector, or you because It’s a first person revenge fantasy) arriving at the gates of a fallen New York looking for Rupert Murdoch.
Man. The Substack app is hard to use for posting. I added the extra parts to the body copy so there’s nothing more to go in here. But I do have a ‘parallel’ story by my friend and writing buddy Jason Lambright about some douchebro American billionaires that I’ll edit and post in a couple of days. I like it a lot. Indeed if anyone feels like posting their own pre-post-apocalypse revenge story, let me know. I’ll set up a Dropbox. Could be a fun project while I’m away eating too much and avoiding the news.
I was choking on that dust as the Collector made it through the hole-in-the-wall - but you'd made it! So much you have put into those few paragraphs. How you paint the scene and people it with references back and in the here-and-now and direct the reader's attention into what might be next. I'm literally shivering with the possibilities. My sister-in-law grew up in Clichy! And the best sugar-dusted "doughnuts" in the world - à Paris - though I did come close to that indulgence in a bakery in Cobar (true) a few years back. About to head to the centre of this tale of yours ourselves - in real life - and to the region of the Sea-to-Lake! Safe travels.
I can only hear new JB stories in Rupert Degas’ voice now. I’m wondering how soon these stories will transition from fiction to prophesy to reality? Lovely work as usual JB
Enjoy Paris. I've only been once, but what a visit. If you can get in, go to Guy Savoy for lunch. If you book online you may be in luck, like I was, and score their special web only deal. Basically you get the whole amazing gastronomic experience for a fraction of the regular price. It's worth every one of those three Michelins.

This is gold, looking forward to more. Anyway, you'll always have Paris, well until the fire tornados wipe it out in 2087
You misspelled 2024.
The ‘original Sooty’ and the ‘world is dying in sepia’ - love this!! What a fab way to start the weekend! Thanks JB, enjoy Paris!!

Very nice. Really liked the pacing and the hook at the end. Studying this to see how you do it.
Not sure whether to keep reading cos I don’t want to ruin the first read of the book when it comes out.
Love it. Real Dark Tower meets Judge Dredd vibes
Loving this story - the Dj & Eric heads 👏👏🤣

Was flashbacking to John Fowles...nasty piece. But you are much more evolved than that...thank Dog
nice one. Cliff hanger-I like it
Fantastic! Really enjoyed reading your new section of The Collector! Have a great time eating French food! Cheers and safe travels.
This is excellent. I love this concept Sir Birmo. How about writing a flashback story of the Collector hunting his first bounty, Gerry Harvey.
Loving this story JB. "Sooty" Canavan, brilliant.

Love it!
I love the sweet smell of revenge in the morning...
Clean 'em up, Collector!
