Much humorous content, though I believe you may have earned a window with your name on it.

ASB is always a highlight as I work through my to do list on friday. I, as I am sure most white men of my age, think I am well informed on current affairs ( my rational brain tells me this is unlikely, but how our culture treats me tells me otherwise) so as I began reading I was entertained by this, I considered, highly unlikely scenario you were spinning but amused. Then I thought I should check the news feeds I follow..... What the Everliving Fuc#K?

It's an interesting contrast from the days of McCarthyism to the idolatry of Putin. I'm sure it's a small minority in the US who favour Vlad the Defenestrator, but that they get to preach it so loudly and openly would have J Edgar spinning in his frock.

Gold. Most Useful Idiot's most useless idiocy in support of Kremlin, and that's saying something.

Isn't it incredibly ironic that American conservatives are drowning so heavily in their own cognitive dissonace that they choose to support their Cold War enemy - a country that openly invades its neighbours and has trashed any semblance of rules based order left in the world - above the democracies of Western Europe? How are they getting away with this clear treason? Where are the House Un-American Activities Committee witch trials when you need them???

There’s a little group of ex-kiaps (png patrol officers - see James Marape's speech to parliament yesterday) who occasionally swap emails on stuff that interests them.

Following one exchange about international politics I asked: “Could someone explain to me what “rules based order” actually means. Is it something the Americans made up or is it just another one of those handy and meaningless aphorisms littering the blathersphere?

Chris Overland came up with a suggestion:

“Good question. No real idea about the answer. The rules appear to be:

1. Everyone will play nicely in the sandpit.

2. Do not steal the other children’s toys or throw them out of the sandpit.

3. No biting, gouging, spitting or scratching is allowed.

4. Anyone breaking these rules will be sent to the Naughty Corner.

Enforcing them is another matter.”

Anyone got any other ideas?

This is a pretty good summary, tbh.

A fair question and I think you got pretty close to the answer. Add:

5. Invading your neighbour's sand castle is not allowed, unless you have nuclear weapons, in which case it's still discouraged, but only by taking your pocket money away.

Love how in these upside-down End Times the "True US patriots" are all pro Russia. Have they not seen Red Dawn?!

I'm feeling a connection between this interview (conservative US holding hands with Putin) and the increasing influence/interference of Russia in the continent of Africa. Under Al Jazeera's articles, particularly after the attack on Ukraine began, many commentators from various African countries readily backed Russia and were very anti any former European colonial power. The reasoning was that Russia didn't colonise any parts of Africa (and my response - that Russia was too busy colonising right across the northern Asia landmass - was ignored). These commentators could have been receiving Russian pay for their efforts, perhaps.

The link between US conservatives (in my mind, big corp and economic power grab) and Putin (in my mind, big wealth and power grab) was driven home by an item on the ABC news - various former colonised African countries whose governments had been overthrown by militias/their military (and there have been a significant number in recent years) have apparently vast untapped resources.

Not too hard to extrapolate from that. Most Useful Idiot, indeed.
